New to contra? We welcome beginners and suggest you arrive at 6:00pm for an orientation to the structure and calls. Wear comfortable clothes and non-marking shoes…athletic shoes are fine. You can come with a friend or on your own. All dances are taught, and we encourage newcomers to dance with experienced dancers for the first few dances as it really helps with the learning curve. Calls are non-gendered and people can dance either role — most of us opt to switch partners for each dance. If you’re smiling, you’re doing it right! Bring a water bottle…we provide some snacks during the break around 8pm. And first-time contra dancers get in free! Usual admission is $20 for not-yet-members and $15 for NBCDS members.
